Gijs van Donselaar is retired lecturer of Political Philosophy and Ethics at the University of Amsterdam. Among his interests are Theories of Justice, Foundations of Liberalism, the work of Thomas Hobbes, the use of Game Theory in the analysis of social and political order, and more recently: Democracy Theory. His publications include The Right to Exploit: Parasitism, Scarcity, Basic Income (New York: Oxford University Press, 2009) and ‘Sticks or Carrots: the Emergence of Self-Ownership’ in Ethics 123 (July 2013), 700-716. Presently he is working on the first translation of The Federalist into Dutch, which he hopes to publish this year or the next.
