WELCOME!

We feature smart, groundbreaking research and well-written narratives from expert writers. Our work has been featured by the New York Times, TIME magazine, History Channel, Discovery Channel, Smithsonian, Mental Floss, NPR, and more. Journal of the American Revolution also produces annual hardcover volumes, a branded book series, and the podcast, Dispatches

Managing Editor Don N. Hagist is pleased to announce two new additions to the Journal of the American Revolution’s editorial team. Adrian Rutt, who most recently contributed a review of Justifying Revolution, provides his expertise in copy editing and academic publishing to ensure that JAR articles meet the journal’s overall editorial standards. In addition, Adrian will weigh in with the rest of the editorial staff on reviewing submissions, setting editorial policy, making selections for the JAR annual print volume and book award, and other JAR activities.

Katie Turner Getty, who has written a number of articles for the journal, most recently about cannon fire around Boston in 1775, is spearheading JAR’s social media outreach, including our Facebook page and our Twitter account. Recognizing that persons encounter interesting content provided by JAR though various platforms, it is essential that we have a presence across social media. “I’m excited to join the team,” Katie said, “because I‘ve long recognized that JAR is a unique publication with a particularly engaged community of readers, contributors, authors, and editors. JAR offers exceptional historical analysis but at the same time manages to keep history approachable, engaging, and fun—no matter one’s level of expertise. I look forward to helping JAR create opportunities for Revolutionary War enthusiasts everywhere to explore and share our common interests.”  And don’t forget to send your pictures for the 2018 Annual Volume Road Trip!

“It’s exciting to have the energy and expertise of Katie and Adrian as JAR continues to reach an ever-wider audience,” said Hagist.
