Dean Snow is an archaeologist and emeritus professor of anthropology at Pennsylvania State University. He grew up in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, and received his BA from the University of Minnesota. He received a PhD in anthropology at the University of Oregon in 1966. He taught at the University of Maine before moving to the University at Albany in 1969. It was from there that he carried out archaeological field investigations for the Park Service on the Saratoga Battlefield in advance of its 1977 bicentennial. He moved to Penn State in 1995. He, his wife Janet, and their three adult children retain close ties in the Saratoga region.
