Twitty, writer, culinary historian, and educator about the legacy and influence of enslaved Africans on American and world culture and cuisine. He is the author of The Cooking Gene, published by HarperCollins/Amistad, which won both the 2018 James Beard Foundation Book of the Year Award as well as the James Beard Foundation award in category for writing.
